What did I smile about in November!

November kicked off the festive season in our household and I had lots to smile about this month. Here are few in pictures.
1. My mum and Bro's birthday - the only one on this post with out a picture since they are both far away but this day always makes me smile. What a perfect present for a mother on her birthday - the birth of her son (no wonder he is her favorite *wink wink*). I am sure to hear about this later but its worth messing with her.
2. Diwali - Spent Diwali with my inlaws for the first time ever.
3. Austin - always a fun time with great friends and a longhorn game. 4. Postcard - Guess what finally made it in the mail - the postcard I sent to Amit from Paris in October. 5. Amit's Birthday - We had family in town from Canada so the celebrations started early over the weekend. We celebrated with dinner where the waiter sang "happy birthday" opera style and then we enjoyed some local wine at D'Vine in Grapevine. 6. Thanksgiving day - set up the decorations and here is a sneak peek of whats to come on the Decemeber blog.7. Trip to Houston (NASA) and Galveston - We took a little road trip with Amit's parents over the weekend of Thanksgiving and enjoyed some family time with them.
8. Kaj/Rup - Seeing these two for the first time since their wedding 9. Vitamix - This is one powerful machine and my MIL has been spoiling us with some yummy juices - my favorite is the green smoothie..10. Food Food and more Food- My MIL has been in town since July to help my BIL with his treatments and we have all benefited from her presence. We have been enjoying delicious homecooked food every week.

What did I smile about in October !

Recently my friend started to write about a few things that made her smile every month .. so I am giving a try. I decided to tweak it a little and instead of listing out the things in words only I decided to share with you in pictures what made me smile. Capturing life in stills has become my latest obsession. So here goes..
1. New babies - our friends Simran and Faisal and my cousin (actually nephew) Raj and his wife Kajal had baby girls on the same day. I havent been able to get a pic with Zarah yet but here is one with Baby Siyona. Whom I got to see in Boston while I was transiting to Paris.
2. Girls trip with Seems and Julie -We travelled to four cities in 10 days - so it was a little hectic to say the least but here are few that really made my trip.

3. Starwood hotels - We got to Valencia late and the hotel was overbooked thanks to a Movie festival in town. The male receptionist was really nice (I am sure he was trying to impress three girls) but he told us since I was a SPG member he had a surprise for us. I was more interested in ensuring we would have enough beds while the other two single girls were cracking up at some naughty thoughts in regards to the surprise. The bell boy finally walked us to our room and the surprise was a SWEET ROYAL Suite. Trust me neither of us really cared to see much of Valencia .. we were more interested in relaxing in the suite. In Barcelona we stayed at the W - its a beautiful hotel right on the beach. A little out of the way if you are visiting Barcelona for the first time but if you want a relaxing time with amazing views this is worth staying at.
4. My darling Husband - I sent him a postcard from Paris (which still hasnt made it here btw) telling him why I want to visit Paris with him and how romantic the city is. So he decided to bring me gorgeous roses to the airport. I didnt get the best picture of the long stem roses but here is one from my cell phone. 5. Fat Cat - this ball of fur always makes me smile especially after I have been away for so many days.

What would I do..

Have you ever wondered what you would do if you were diagnosed with Cancer? I find myself asking this question more frequently now than ever. This year has been a rollercoaster – first my aunt, then my dad and now my BIL. I know one thing, if there was even a 10% chance of living I would FIGHT. I would fight for me, for my husband, my parents, my brother – for everyone around me. But I would also LIVE – treasure and enjoy every breath I would take from that day on. I know that no matter how much you think about it nothing prepares you for something like that and thinking/typing this is easier than having to go through it. I am not saying I wouldn’t have bad days – I would cry and wouldnt keep them bottled up. I would share my emotions and be an open book. Because what else can be worse than sharing your fears after you have Cancer right?? (I am sure there can be a few things - but get my point?)

I have been watching this new show on Showtime – the Big C. It’s about a lady, a mother who is diagnosed with cancer and doesn’t have much time to live. She doesn’t tell her son or her separated husband about it. She does some crazy things – buys a new car, cash's out her 401K and starts living. Without knowing she has cancer her actions are straight out loony but knowing it – its beautiful (a little extreme at times). A different kind of beautiful – she indulges in the simple happiness and learns to appreciate the small things.

I don’t wish this upon anyone – so really appreciate what you have today and enjoy it. You never know what the future holds for you.

Waving the Red White and Blue

This 4th of July is especially special because its the first we celebrate as citizens of this wonderful country. We have such mixed backgrounds - we are both ethnic indian but were raised in different continents and now call the US our home. This country has given us a lot in the last (almost) 13 years. To begin with our college educations, significant others, jobs, a comfortable home, life long friends and most importantly our FREEDOM(which we take for granted sometimes). As a minority woman I have never felt so free anywhere in the world - even in my native and old resident countries. So for all the above I am grateful and PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN! Happy 4th y'all :). We celebrated it in true American style - BBQ with friends (in our case vegetairan ofcourse) and a Baseball game.

Go Lakers!

I cant believe how quickly time flies. Its already summer and we have had a few busy months.. wondering what we have been upto??

- celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary on March 5th.
- attended Kaj's bachelorette weekend in Austin - it was a small UT reunion and it was great seeing my girlies after a long long time
- enjoyed the black eyed peas concert - they are incredible performers a must see..
- attended Kaj and Rup's wedding in Houston straight up Punjabi style..
- went to Phoenix twice for work
- became a US citizen - woo hoo
- dad had major surgery (he is recovering well touch wood)
- Played a golf tournament - i started out well but its hard to do well in Texas 100F degree weather
- turned 30 - it doesnt feel any different than 29 so dont let that get to you if you are about to cross into your dirty thirties..
- visited Seems, Rits and Sahir in San Fransisco - this trip was long overdue but we had so much fun, the weather was fabulous and we couldnt have asked for better company ;)

Amit and I enjoy sports so for some one who grew up watching football (soccer as it is called in the west) we are so excited about the FIFA world cup in South Africa. We both have different favorites which makes for some friendly competition. The next few weeks will be all about soccer but for today we are enjoying the NBA Finals. GO LAKERS!! Amit, Aval and Barbs all want the Celtics to win so I am the odd one out. Lets see what happens - two more quarters to go. I have been to busy (lazy) to put up pictures from our San Fransisco but I promise I will get to them this weekend. Stay Tuned...

And I am back..

Its the begining of a new decade and I cant believe how quickly time flies. Firstly I wish you all a very Happy new year (a little late I know) - hope this year brings you all health, wealth and happiness. We ended 2009 in Bahrain and started the new year in Dubai.
