Matter of Factly!

So that moment, the moment I have been dreading arrived Tuesday morning. As I dropped the girls to school Aashi just said to me "mama my hand broken". At first I wasn't sure if I heard her right so I asked her to repeat what she said. So she said it again, of course it caught me off guard and without really reacting to what she said I asked her "which hand Aashi?". She pointed to her baby hand! By this time we had already pulled into the school parking lot so I walked out to get her out of her seat and said to her "Aashi your hand is not broken love its just small baby hand ok?". She nodded and that was it. We walked in to school, dropped the backpacks and off they both went to start their day.

A few days ago I had posted a question on Lucky fin's Facebook page asking other mothers when their little ones started to notice their hands. Little did I know those answers were going to help me deal with that morning. I got back into the car I wanted to cry but I didn't!. I texted Amit right away and shared with him what had just happened. He asked me if Aashi seemed sad, informed or indifferent. She said it so casually and wasn't sad about it - I think she was just sharing the fact. That little one is our old wise soul, Aariya is more private and doesn't verbalize her feelings as much but I wonder if she feels the same way about her baby hand. The bottom line is it happened and we survived it. I am sure as they grow the questions will be different and will come with some emotions but for now we addressed the first step.

A few days later both the girls were playing on the slide we have at home and they insisted on walking up the slide. My first instinct was to stop them - I was afraid they would fall attempting to do it with one hand. But then I thought if they had two arms I would let them try. So I let them do it and actually encouraged them to try it but carefully. Aashi went first and in passing shared with Amit that in a weeks time they will have figured it out. Forget a week Aashi did it on her first try and Aariya followed soon after. Nothing stops these two and they make me soooo soooo proud. They also continuously teach me to trust their abilities. Here is a video of Aariya making it up the slide!

What did I smile about in December!

I cant believe 2014 is over and as usual the last month ended in its usual hectic manner. December has always been one of my most favorite months with all the holiday celebrations and now its even more special as we celebrate our girls birthday! I hope you had an extra sweet holiday season filled with lots of family, friends, love and laughter.

School holiday picture time - The girls had their first holiday picture in school. They got all dressed up in these dresses that looked like long maxis on them. The school had these cut outs set up in school and we had to take a picture in them every single day!
Girls night out - Chin Chin and I took the girls out to dinner one Friday evening while Amit was at his work holiday party. After dinner we took them to the mustangs and let them run around and tire themselves out.
Ashay mamu visits us from NJ - The girls had a blast with Ashay mamu and kept him on his toes. He brought the girls their first Christmas/birthday present and they were so excited to open it.
Indian Wedding Anniversary - We celebrated our 11th Indian wedding anniversary! Funny story we didn't even remember till our parents reminded us and asked how we were planning to celebrate. We spent it at Top golf celebrating with our friends. The girls hit their first golf balls and loved it, I see a lot more trips there in our future.
Dhaval mamu visits - Mamu spent two weeks with us this time around and the girls had so much fun with him. They loved waking him up super early, insisted on him feeding them their morning yogurt and also making him draw their favorite things!
Meeting Santa Claus - Ok so I have to admit I procrastinated getting their Santa picture taken this year. Apparently North Park Mall has the best set up so I thought I would give it a try. We got to the mall early on Christmas eve to get a ticket but they sold out in 15 mins. So we drove over to the Galleria next and thankfully their line wasn't as long. I kept talking to A&A about Santa and how we were going to take a picture with him. Aashi seemed excited and told me she was going to tell Santa "bring the present toys" but Aari wasn't happy about it from the beginning. And then it was our turn, I am laughing typing this but there was a total meltdown. Both of them cried but it made for a cute picture - one of those must have Christmas classics. I hope that doesn't make me a bad mum haha.
Christmas festivities - My coworkers joke with me about having a revolving house door. We love hosting our friends and family and this Christmas we hosted my cousins from Cayman in addition to my brother being here. This is what our tree looked like with gifts for three kids (A&A and their cousin). We had a dinner get together later in the evening and enjoyed a home cooked meal with more of our friends. I love having a house full during the holidays.
Traditions continue - Gaylord Texan trip with our friends and family. This has become a yearly tradition for us. Its always such a fun time full of lights, decor and lots of place for the kids to run around. These silly munchkins were happiest sitting on the couch and snacking away all together.
A&A's 2nd birthday - The girls fell sick over the holiday break and Aariya woke up with a 103F fever and threw up all over her bed. So needless to say i thought our plans for the day were shot. But she bounced back with in a few hours and were still able to venture out. We started off with brunch our one of favorites Taco Joint. After brunch we headed over to the Perot museum. We had never been and had heard great things especially about their Children's museum on the lower level. Lets just say it was a hit, the girls didnt want to leave. I think they had a fabulous birthday which was followed by ice cream cake that Reenal masi got for them. Time flies with these two monkey's - here is a more detailed write up about them and their year!
New Years eve - We drove to Austin to celebrate New years eve with our friends. We had some friends visiting so it was awesome to catch up with everyone. It was a low key night with dinner at a friends. All the kids went to bed before the clock struck 12. You can imagine the chaos while they were all awake. This is best picture you can take with so many kids in one place.
